Solar questions
How much do solar panels cost?
A typical 4 kW home system is £6,700 with us, including scaffolding, inverter, network paperwork and the MCS certificate. A 3 kW system is £5,500 and 5 kW is £7,950. We confirm a fixed price after a free survey.
Is there VAT on solar panels?
Not on homes. Solar panels and batteries for homes have 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5%. Business installations have standard VAT, which VAT-registered businesses can usually reclaim.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not. Rooftop solar on a house is normally permitted development. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas can need consent; we check this at the survey.
Can I get paid for the electricity I export?
Yes. With an MCS certificate you can sign up for a Smart Export Guarantee tariff with an energy supplier, who pays you for each unit you send to the grid. Rates vary by supplier.
Is my roof suitable?
South, east and west facing roofs all work. We look at shading, roof condition and space at the survey and tell you honestly if solar is not worth it.
